Brigadoon Village Announces New Board Chair

Halifax, N.S. – In many of the relay games played by kids during camp at Brigadoon Village – Canada’s largest pediatric medical camp program – the next person up builds on the momentum of those who have gone before them. Brigadoon’s Board of Directors is no different. Brigadoon Board member and community leader Scott Flemming Is the new Board Chair for Brigadoon Village, picking up the baton from outgoing and long-serving board chair Anne McGuire.

After a five-decade career in health care leadership, Anne’s ‘retirement’ quickly transitioned into a role at the helm of Brigadoon’s Board of Directors. Anne has overseen an astronomical expansion of the camp in her seven years as board chair.

“So much of my career was spent in pediatric health care administration, and the opportunity to lead Brigadoon’s board allowed me to be more hands-on in an area I’m passionate about,” says Anne. “To have played a role in the growth of this amazing organization and witnessed the impact it has on thousands of kids living with chronic health conditions has been a tremendous honour.”

Succeeding Anne as board chair is board member Scott Flemming. Scott has served on Brigadoon’s Board of Directors since 2017 and recently acted as co-chair for the organization’s $12.5 million Shine On! campaign. Scott is Vice President of Ocean Contractors Limited and has been involved in many community organizations and philanthropic activities across the province.

“We’re honoured to have benefitted from the expertise, consistency, compassion and leadership Anne gifted our organization. But, we’re also enthusiastic about our incoming Chair, Scott, and the fresh perspective he’ll offer us for our next growth phase,” says Brigadoon’s CEO, David Graham. “Those who know Scott are familiar with the energetic and contagious passion with which he approaches projects. We’re amazed at what we’ve attained under his guidance since launching our capital campaign and excited about the opportunities ahead.”

The Brigadoon Village Board of Directors is currently comprised of 16 members. They are hard-working and committed to making Brigadoon Village the best it can be for campers and staff. Giving extraordinary children and youth living with chronic conditions a chance to be ordinary is the ultimate goal. Since 2011, Brigadoon has grown into a year-round operation welcoming thousands of children from throughout Atlantic Canada to 30 unique camps.

“I feel privileged to support the work Brigadoon is doing. This organization is one-of-a-kind and right in our backyard. The kids who come through these programs are kind, compassionate, resilient, and engaged,” says incoming board chair Scott Flemming. “Brigadoon is changing the lives of Atlantic Canadian youth and helping to shape the future leaders of our communities. The possibilities for this organization – and the youth it serves – are endless.”
